Friday, January 15th

Hello to everyone. Clay broke his left arm. He has a new red cast that he is really proud of. He was playing tug of war with his puppy on the snow and ice after Christmas. He slipped and landed on it and broke two bones. He favored it but it did not slow him down. As he continued to protect it we became worried and took him to our local doctor for an x-ray. Definitely broken. He and Deidra went to Dallas to see an orthopedic at Children's. They put the new cast on and told him to wear it for three weeks. It seems that in the scope of things the arm was mild in comparison to what he has been through. He is back home and doing fine. Still on schedule for the surgery on the 22nd. Good days to all.

  2. oh my goodness... that boy is going to keep you all on your toes... I agree it probably seems to be a breeze considering the other things him and the rest of you have been through... He is a very strong little boy!! I am happy to hear of him being such a normal little boy though... playing tug of war with a puppy seems like something that when we met you back in March when my cousin LaCretia was in the hospital there too... would have never crossed my mind for him to be playing like a normal little boy again... God is good.. all the time.... So thankful for that and I know you are too.. so glad to hear from you again... praying for your family always but def. on Jan. 22 extra prayers your way.. Love, Amy

  5. Oh no! I'm glad he seems to take it in stride and keep going, but it might be harder on you two! Glad he got to pick out a cool color for his cast, that made all the difference for Sadie when she broke her wrist last summer. The nice thing about a break is that it heals and on they go...but we're still sorry it happened! Think of you 5 often...wish we were close enough to see you more. Take care. Love, Morgan and Michelle

  6. Good evening,
We are sorry along with others that Clay has broken his arm. Bless his heart, what next. Glad he is doing o.k. and he will be ready to play tug of war again. Like you say he has been through so much this last year he probably thinks this is a piece of cake. We will be with you all in thought and prayer on the 22nd. We just hope the surgery is very successful.
    Love ya'll.

  8. Ah! We are so sad to hear about Clay's broken arm, but you are right - it's mild in comparison to what he's been through the last year. It just proves he is still all boy - and we are so glad for that! We'll keep your family in our prayers for this next surgery and look forward to more updates!

  10. That silly boy, what was he thinking? You are right, a broken arm seems like nothing huh? I bet you were the calmest parents of a child who just broke his arm. We'll be praying! Love, Missy and family

  12. Just seeing that smile when the blog opens is worth a lot. Sorry about the broken arm, but they do heal, and especially as young as he is. Is the puppy all right, Clay? Don't let him get the best of you. Love, Roanne

  13. You know, it is sad that with all Clay has been through, now he breaks his arm! But keeping that in mind...he's just a normal little boy! Praise God for Clay!!! David Lewis I think broke a bone on three different occasions. His wrist, at about age 8 or 9, his arm up near the growth plate when he was tackled with a football under that arm, and later in adult life his ankle. Why was it always David? It just was. I love you all so much! Carolyn

  14. Nothing much phases Clay, does it? When I surveyed today's injuries on Rusty, I asked him if he wanted me to send him to school in a helmet and a padded rubber suit. Rusty is having so much fun at school in Olney that the knees are all ripping out in his jeans, even his new ones. Anyway, I hadn't checked in the blog in a couple of days so I didn't know until now that Clay broke his arm. I hope that the arm doesn't bother him too much, and it sounds like a good excuse for icecream or some other type of refined sugar. I hope that you found Rusty's card on the door. I also hope that you can figure out what he wrote on it. We will be praying for you all on Friday. Rusty wants Clay to come see him when he feels like it. I kept the arm splints from when Rusty had his endoscopy test because I figure it is only a matter of time before we need them out here, so I'm prepared. Rusty is really picking up speed on his bicycle since he lost the training wheels. Randy hasn't exactly showed him how to use the brakes yet though. I hold my breath about a zillion times a day just watching him play. I don't think that little boys care if they get injured if they were having fun at the time. God Bless

  15. Well, hi to the Fites! I am sorry Clay broke his arm but he does give me such a lift from the way he deals with life! I will never, never forget what he said about hoping the Lord comes today because then he would have a new body!! How I love your little boy! Welllll -- I appreciate that you are working on your New Year letter but it will be welcome whenever it arrives! You can soon call it a Valentine letter instead, or a Spring letter, etc. etc. I have been planning to send you a letter about my husband's burn experience and haven't even started it. I will though. All 3 boys are great and I love Cody and Carson, too!!
    Love and hugs!

  16. poor little guy... so sorry to hear that... yet know that this is minor compared to what his been through. Colton asked the other night while playing Mario Kart... "I wonder if Clay has a Wii? I'd like to race him in Mario Kart." Let us know if the kids have a Wii. We can set up a showdown!
