Sunday, November 29th

Hello to all. I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had a nice day and are so thankful to be home and with all of our family. You don't appreciate the small things until they are taken away from you. It is good to have all three boys underfoot. We usually head to South Texas for Thanksgiving but we had it in Olney this time. There was plenty of good food and we enjoyed the visit with everyone who came. Clay and Deidra are headed back to Dallas tomorrow, minus grandma who has been here helping, to have a dressing change done on his neck. We are not sure of his next surgery date but we expect to have it set after tomorrow's visit. The wound pump that Clay carries with him is very temperamental and we have usually exhausted our tricks trying to keep it functioning between the dressing changes. Clay seems to be doing well. On Thanksgiving day after lunch his brothers and cousins were playing in the arena. Clay said he was going out to play. We watched as he scaled two pipe fences with his wound pump tucked in his backpack. When he reached the ground on the other side he took off running to join the fun. Apparently all the therapy is paying off. He eats like a horse and is very active. We realize that there are still many battles to be fought but we know that the Lord has a plan for Clay's life and we as parents have to help any way we can. We miss all of the contact with everyone who graciously comments on the blog, but we are thankful that God and Clay are steering us back toward a semblance of normalcy. Take care, and we are always thankful for the prayers, help, and encouragement we have encountered on this journey.

  1. A lack of comment does not mean a lack of readers or people who care. We still check this blog along with Larisa's every night and sometimes more often. So glad there is getting to be a bit of normalacy for you on this long journey! Thanks for posting when you can!

  3. Oh, we're still following Clay and are anxious to keep up. I always inquire about him from my Tx. relatives Brad/Lesha, James/Jan, Kristen and David. It's wonderful for him to just get out and be a little boy for a while and forget about the medical stuff that is always ahead.

  7. Good morning,
Was so glad for the update and we are proud of Clay for not letting his injuries get in the way of his playing. Glad he can be so active as that will help keep the grafts stretched. We did have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day, and we try to make everyday a good day. Glad ya'll had a Thanksgiving day with your 3 little boys. So glad he is slowly recovering, and we do continue to pray for his successful recovery, and we can be so thankful for God who can heal every person.
We think of DeeDee and Clay as they are on the road today.
Love and hugs to ya'll B&E

  8. We love that you are getting "back to a semblance of normalcy"!!!! That has to feel so good to you as a family. We love your updates, and still look often for them, but know how much it means that you can be a family again and do family things together. Isn't youth beautiful? It seems that nothing gets in their way...not even back packs and wound pumps!! We keep you close in thought...and we still hope that someday we can meet you all, and that our little 6 year olds can meet each other. Hugs to all of you.

  13. Hey, Precious Fites! I am glad you had a good Thanksgiving and think you probably did the right thing to stay at home. You already have to run hither thither and yon as it is. You needed to just chill, I am sure. God bless you all as you continue to mend with Clay and to stay bonded as a family. I am so proud of all of you.
    Love to you all,
    Carolyn

  16. Wonderful to read a new update and we sure hope the dressing change went well, and that the new surgery date is set. Someone mentioned to us recently because of a loss in our own family, that in time, what now is, will be the "new normal." Feel so thankful for the Rock that never changes, the word that never changes, the hope that never changes, the love that never changes, the God that offers all this and never changes! Good days to all!
