Hello to all! Once again, sorry for not posting in awhile. If we would post more frequently, we would not have to try to remember all the events of the past weeks. Seems to me that our days are passing by so quickly and I want God to show me how to make the most of every moment. I also feel the need to clear my head and thoughts often. Last month, we forgot my mother's birthday and this month we forgot my mother-in-law's birthday!! We called my mom after her birthday and I cooked a meal for my mother-in-law Monday evening (three weeks after her birthday)~Goodness!! So, if we happen to forget your birthday.......it is not intentional. :-)

Clay had a follow-up doctor appt. last Monday (22nd). A small area around Clay's donor site was infected; so, we were glad to see Dr. Bidic and have him take care of it. We are thankful for Dr. Bidic (Clay's Plastic Surgeon) and for his two Physician Assistants (Kaylee & Savanna). Clay's next surgery will be April 29th at Children's in Dallas. Dr. Bidic will place expanders under the skin on his shoulders and an expander in his left leg. Clay still has his trach and it cannot be removed until he has more mobility in his neck. The scars still prevent him from tilting his head back. Having the trach in place enables the doctors to safely intubate him for surgeries. Once the expanders are placed under the skin, saline will be added weekly to expand his good skin. The expanders will be in for several months-until enough skin is expanded to bring around to the front of his neck. The same thing will be done for the scar band behind his left knee. He may look like he has shoulder pads this summer-"saline" shoulder pads. :-)
We have had warm days this week and Clay has started saying "I'm hot" and looking for shade.
It is almost time for his lesson with his "homebound" teacher, so I will let this be all for now.
Thank you for your continued care and kindness~you are special to us!

  4. We are so glad to read the latest update. I am sure the mothers did not really think twice about you forgetting birthdays! Seems you've had a lot on your plate this past while. Things will get back to normal - or should I say, you'll get accustomed to the new normal :). We know this summer will probably not be a lot of fun for Clay because of the heat, but we do look forward to seeing him. I get yet another lesson from Clay - when we are in the world and begin to feel its heat, we begin looking for shade - God's arms have that shade. Remember we love you and we will look forward to posts as you find time to do them. Love as always, Dawn & Pam

  7. Good morning, so glad to read the new update and that Clay is doing good. We think of you all so often and hope to see you at convention.
I bet the two Mothers are just so thankful they still have Clay that they didn't pay any attention to not hearing from ya'll on their birthdays. The boys are probably looking forward to Easter. Time is flying so fast, I don't know what happened to 09, but it is gone and this is already the first quarter of 10. We are on the fast track
    Love ya'll

  8. We were SO excited to see all of your beautiful family on the news last night!! The girls and i watched, through many tears, just amazed at how well Clay is doing. We were so glad to see him in action with Carson and Cody playing baseball and having fun. Such a perfect example of answered prayers! Morgan can't wait to meet Clay in person, since I've been telling her all along that their birthdays are 2 weeks apart and he is her age. She still wears her Clay David Fite bracelet and asks about him all the time. We love y'all and will continue to pray for him and specifically for his surgery on the 29th.
    Love,
    Kelly, Reno, Alyssa and Morgan

  9. So great to read another post. We took a look at the news post also that Katie posted. The boys are always so interested in what is going on with Clay. He is such a great example for us...remembering that what is on the inside is what matters most. :)

  11. Thinking of you all this morning, hope you have a good meeting and a wonderful afternoon. We have enjoyed some long needed rain. We had 3.3" this past week and enjoyed every drop. It was a slow rain so gave it time to sink in. Water in the lakes which is a beautiful sight. More in the forecast Monday and Tuesday. Our road is muddy, but it is a good muddy.
We will be thinking of you all the 29th and hope everything goes o.k. for Clay.
    With love and care

  12. Dear ones, I woke up in the middle of the night here, thinking about Clay and wondering how things are going with him and Carson and Coday and you two. As I lay thinking I realized I hadn't been on the blog in a LONG time. I read back to see what all you had reported and had to go to when he broke his arm. I was shocked at how long it had been because I think of you all often...I just hadn't taken the time to tell you lately. I think I have emailed you since then but not blogged. I love my Valentine Letter and all the pictures. I also liked how the last three picts showed Clay's progress and how his over all facial shape is returning to its original shape and the improvements the doctors have done.I'm sure it is even more so now. You have three very precious fellows and I'm so sorry I missed them when they were down here two-three weeks? ago.If I'd have kept up with the blog I would have known they were here. When you get a chance send recent pictures on my email of all three. I love to get their pictures. Reminds me of three other little boys...Dusty, Marty and David. :)
Much love and many prayers and thoughts coming your way all the time...even when I don't blog you.
    Love you big, Carolyn
