Friday, December 4th
Quick update before the day slips away. Clay's surgery went well yesterday. So well that he has been at home with Mom all day today. We had planned to spend last night in the hospital, but the Physician's Assistant came out of the O.R. and told Deidra and I that Dr. Bidic thought Clay would be able to go home after the procedure. They took two strips of skin from his upper right thigh and placed them over the Integra on his neck. We anticipated them being very painful and they were. They placed his wound vac back on his neck to keep the grafts in place. When he awoke in the recovery room he immediately started complaining and crying that his leg hurt. Our recovery nurse was very attentive to his pain and put several doses of pain medication into his IV to get it under control. Clay was disappointed that he was not going to stay in the hospital overnight, because he wanted to watch cartoons and eat popsicles in his hospital room. Mom and I were not disappointed at all. We left the hospital around 6:00 p.m and arrived home a little after 9:00. Clay had one bout with nausea on the trip home but it quickly subsided and some food seemed to solve the problem. He slept well at home and rested all day. He asked this morning if his brothers had school today? When I said yes he told me, "I need someone to play with." We would like to offer a special thanks to all of the Doctors and staff at Children's that have helped Clay. We appreciate the care he has received and the extra efforts that have been made on his behalf. Thanks to everyone keeping up with Clay. We will post more specifics when we can.

This is a surprise post. Thank you for letting us know so soon. Glad Clay is wanting to play, and is nice Carson and Cody won't have school tomorrow. I am glad for pain meds that he will be more comfortable in the healing process. Have a nice week end.

ReplyDeleteKids are wonderful! They seemingly bounce back so quick! Love that he was ready to play!! Nice that today is Saturday, and he can have his brothers home to play with him! Glad that surgery went well for him, and we hope that healing goes smoothly. Thank you for updating!!

We are praying for all of you. It's been a rough week, but the rough times don't last forever. I've been a little out of commission this week after surgery, but I was still praying for the little guy. He is so brave. Tell the little guy I thought of him a lot this week when I would get scared. He made me brave which is not an easy thing to do. I'm a superchicken. When I need inspiration from the bravest people in the world, I think of Clay Fite and his posse. I'm so proud of him and all of you all. I know that it is hard, but it won't be so hard, as it is now, forever. I hope that you have a restful week with as little pain as possible. Thank you for the post! Glad Clay is doing so well. One thing you might suggest next time he has surgery is a scopalomine patch (http://www.drugs.com/cdi/scopolamine-patch.html). I just had gall bladder surgery and the anesthesiologist asked if I tend to motion sickness or get car sick, which I do. When I came out of surgery I had a scopalomine patch and was not nauseous at all. The anesthesiologist said it sometimes is something in some anesthesia that makes us nauseous. But now I know there is a solution. Hope it works for Clay. And - again, thanks for keeping us updated. We love you, Pam

You do not know me, but I feel I know you because of what you have written on this blog. Maybe some day we will meet. I live in Medford, Oregon.
