Saturday February 21st
Thank you to all who chose to spend your Saturday visiting the Fite family. We have had so much support from friends and family. We are truly amazed by the number of people who have been in touch and are trying to help our little boy. We received a bit of a surprise today from the doctors and Clay. We attended all of the morning visits and Clay seemed to be doing fine. At the 11:00 a.m. visit Crystal the nurse informed us that she was taking all of the drugs that were inducing paralysis out of Clay's system. She had child restraints on his arms and said that as soon as the drugs were out of his body we could anticipate some movement. We did not know that this was scheduled for today and were a bit apprehensive. She told us the doctors had decided at their morning meeting that Clay was ready to start assisting in the breathing process and they needed him to start exercising his diaphragm and make sure his lungs were functioning properly. She said it could take 4 to 6 hours for the medication to get out of his system. When we came back for the 2:00 visit he was assisting the ventilator and taking in as much oxygen as we have seen since we arrived. He was able to move on a limited basis and the nurse said he was doing well. We were happy that he was functioning on his own to a degree and felt that today another milestone was achieved. He is still hooked up to a dozen lines and machines but just a little movement from a toe or a tongue is a welcome sign for scared parents. It will still be a long time before we see an opened eye or hear a word but we are encouraged. This was most of today's happening and I am going to say good night and wish everyone a good Sunday.

ReplyDeleteGod is truly an Awesome God with blessings in diguise. I'm so glad Clay is doing so well with surgeries and since he is a fighter he is already to start doing things on his own. Yall are constantly in our thoughts and prayers.

ReplyDeleteSo glad for the good news of yesterday. We can only imagine what you all are experiencing, but feel for you and can't help putting ourselves in your place, as we have an active five year old. Our hearts are there, and we are among others in appreciating you all taking time to update Clay's progress. We think of his brothers, too...this isn't easy for them either. We hope that today is a healing day for all.
ReplyDeleteGreat news and we are so glad. You will come through Clay. It sounds like you are a strong little farm boy. We just want you to know that we here in Kansas think of you every minute of the day. A good meeting here and we thought of you folks. It is wonderful to have new friends in you. Your friends from Kansas Stan and Helen Chipperfield.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear how much progress Clay has made!

Just a note to let the Fite's know that we drove to Carter Blood Care in Mesquite (we moved from Olney to Quinlan 2 yrs ago) and donated blood in Clay's name. We want to make sure that he gets credit for 2 pints. Jane Strobl (wife of David Strobl) and Elaine Lavespere (sister of David Strobl). We are praying for you all.....
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the updates. Across the miles they are a big help. We think of you often and wish we could help. We went to see Bill this afternoon. He is hoping to go home Wed. Just hang in there. Love Us 2
ReplyDeleteYay! All week there have been little bits of good news. We hope it continues that way. Thinking of you five as you temporarily settle into this new "normal" until Clay is home. Hope the bigger boys were able to come see you this weekend. For their sakes and yours.Big hugs to all of you. Love, Morgan and Michelle
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for taking the time to keep us updated. I have had so many people ask about Clay and his updates here in Archer City. Their are so many praying for you all. My 10 yr. old Derrik is praying daily and constantly asking me about Clay as well as Carson. You see Derrik has a little brother Clay's age. So it seems as if he has had this strange connection with Clay and Carson, all though he has never met them. He asks as soon as I get home if he can check Clay's blog. We have spent many moments weeping with you all and for you all. We are praying continually. We have faith, as we know you do, that God is going to do amazing things in Clay's life. We love you all and you are all on our hearts.

What great news. The girls ask me every day. How is Clay. We keep praying and you can tell God is hearing everyone. Summer went to give blood today. They had no room for the girls she went with. So they are on the list for March 2. The Olney Varsity Softball team are wearing camo ribbon for Clay when they play.
ReplyDeleteLove Ya!
