Saturday February 28

Hello to all. Clay has now been in the Burn ICU for 14 days. Deidra and I feel like we have been here 14 years. Clay had a rough day today. He slept very little last night. When I arrived at 6:00 a.m. his night nurse said she was glad I arrived. Clay was running a fever and was very emotional. I told him he was going to be fine and I held his hand and talked to him until he calmed down and rested. When I came in he tried to open his eyes. Jennifer, the nurse, asked him if he wanted her to open his eyes so he could see Dad. It hurts when they open them because the skin is very tender. He quickly shook his head no. Clay fought a fever all day. The doctors came in between 9 and 10 during the dressing change to assess his grafts. Dr. Purdue came to the waiting room and let us know he was pleased with Clay's progress up to this point. This afternoon a therapist came in with little custom made boots for his feet and ankles. He has lain in bed with his feet pointing down and the boots are made to stretch his tendons back out so he can walk when the day comes. We are still anxious to meet the new doctor and his team. No one has given us any indication of next weeks plans. We hope everyone has a good Sunday. Please remember Clay and the Fites in your prayers. We are thankful for all of the kindness and help.

  6. Romans 5:1-6
    1(A)Therefore, having been justified by faith, (B)we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
    2through whom also we have (C)obtained our introduction by faith into this grace (D)in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.

    3(E)And not only this, but we also (F)exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about (G)perseverance;

    4and (H)perseverance, (I)proven character; and proven character, hope;

    5and hope (J)does not disappoint, because the love of God has been (K)poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

    6For while we were still (L)helpless, (M)at the right time (N)Christ died for the ungodly.

  8. Your journey is a difficult one, there are going to be ups and downs along the way. Trust in the Lord to provide you strength to get through the hard days.
    It sounds like Clay is strong and the Lord will make him stronger as each day passes. We pray that his fever subsides and that he has a better day today.

  13. I was so amazed how much Clay had improved in one week. Just seeing his little nose and chin and the hair growing on his head and little eyelashes,etc....makes you want to hug him so much. The best part when DD and I were in visiting him last nite was when the nurse came in and asked if I was "GRANDPA".....I proudly said yes and was so pleased when DD didn't correct me. Y'all be strong and know you are in our thoughts and prayers every single day......

  14. My heart continues to hurt for you. I want so badly to help you through this difficult time. I pray for Clay and all of you that are surrounding him! Our little Annie continues to pray for Clay. It is interesting because she always ends her prayer praying for Cody and Carson. I guess because she has 2 brothers, she understands how they felt when she was burnt and feels sorry for them too! We will continue to lift your whole family up to the Lord and wait for His healing touch to heal little Clay. Continually praying! The Wood family in Mexico

  15. We just keep thinking of you five. By now I'm sure you are all exhausted. I hope this week there will be lots of bright spots and bits of good news to keep you all going, one day at a time. We hope the fever and the hard day have subsided. Close in thought....love, Morgan and Michelle

  16. Greetings from Wyoming! I've sure been thinking about you since Kevin emailed me about this. I surely hope things will continue to go well. It's wonderful what these bodies can do! I loved the "Grandpa". I can just see that! I also loved that Clay knew his father's voice and was comforted. Such a beautiful picture of what God's voice can mean to us especially when we are in special need. Tell your mom a special Hello from me, DD. I doubt you will remember me - we saw you at conv and at Kevin's a long time ago - before Chance. Take care and keep your chin up! Sharon Smith Eisele (Kevin's sister)

  19. For some reason I can not make any comments for 3-2-2009

    I would like to offer our services to the family
    regarding Clay and his healthcare. I received notification that the Shrine Hospital for Children would be available for his recovery, etc.

    I would put the right contact in touch with the family. Shrine Hospital provides Health Care to Children and their families at no charge if they are sponsored by a Shriner. Which is not a problem.

    The Shrine Burn units are the BEST in the world.
    I'm sure this option could be of help to the family after they get thru these challenging days.

    Please contact me at pasmith216@aol.com and I will forward you my phone number.

    Your in our prayers! Clay your my Hero!

  20. I think I have finally learned how to post a note. I have been following Clay's progress on the blog from day one. I am Dana Bernhardt's grandmother and she called the day of Clay's accident and ask me to pray. Every morning I go to the blog and get Clay's update; then I pray.It seems the whole world is supporting Clay and his family. I keep our Ladies Bible class informed and we pray. He is also on the church prayer list. I just know that Clay is going to be good as new one day. When you are able, give Clay ahug for me and keep one for the rest of his family. In Christian love, Loyce Charles
