Thursday, April 23

Hello to all! We hope you all had a good day. Clay has spent his day coughing up secretions from his lungs. They are also frequently suctioning his trach tube. When he coughs, he gags and up come the gastric juices from the stomach. He is worn out from all this vomiting. He is and has been on several different antinausea medicines. His blood pressure, oxygen level, heart rate, and temperature are all stable and look good.
Clay's occupational therapist made him a new mouth splint. This will help stretch his lips and help him open his mouth better. She also brought some fun toys in for his therapy. The physical therapist helped him exercise his legs while he sat in his chair. Kermit walked to Clay's room and they waved to each other. We hope he gets some rest tonight. We are thankful for God's healing and we are thankful again for all who are taking care of Clay in the ICU. Hugs and thanks to you all! We are thankful for all your heartfelt prayers!

  3. Ya know, we can't all relate to all he is going through, but vomiting up gastric juices is something I think we can all relate to and we all know how horrible it makes you feel. It makes me sick just thinking that he is having to go through that on top of everything else. It just ain't fair! Glad to hear that he is handling it well, but I am sad to think he is having to "handle" it at all. I was awake most of the night last night. It was weird. I woke up and knew he wasn't feeling well. I prayed and prayed. I woke up feeling like I was hearing a child through a baby monitor. I haven't had one of those in a long time! So, I knew it was my "night duty" call and sat up and prayed. I will be praying harder tonight. I do hope tomorrow is a better day. I know he must be exhausted! Hope you all sleep well. Love you, Missy

  4. Reading through your post made me realize how good it is that there such a fine burn unit hospital so close to home. Tonight I am adding prayers for the Parkland teams of doctors and staff that make these hard decisions of what to do next in the treatment plan. It sounds as if there is a lot of communications and it truly is a team effort to know when to make the next step with Clay's treatment. Ten major surgeries with anesthesia would be extreme on anybody, but on one so little, emphasizes that team must be extraordinary. I recall the "norm" for treatment of extensive burns such as Clay in the late sixties was often side-tracked by complications that his teams is addressing proactively. Hopefully they can figure out how to help the reflux as well. Perhaps as we petition healing prayers on Clay's behalf, we can ask that the reflux responds to treatment quickly also. Those are my added requests and always praying for the whole family for strength, peace and encouragement.

    Prayers for you all,

    Gary and Jeanne'

  6. I am lifting Clay up in agreement to the message Jeanne sent...that Clay will respond to the reflux treatment. And I pray that God will clear the congestions in Clay's lungs. Love and prayers for all of you.

  7. Hang in there, Clay (and family); the vomiting will soon go away. The more of that mucus you can eliminate the more healing can take place. We know it's hard, but you are a strong little guy. Hope you have a great day! Dawn & Pam
