Saturday March 21st

Brief note tonight. Clay was having trouble controlling his respiratory rate this morning. They placed him back on the respirator for about 4 hours today to give him some rest and assist him in breathing. They did an X-ray of the lungs and found more fluid than is needed. He was given two big doses of Lasix to start pulling the excess fluid from his body. The nurses are keeping a constant eye on his breathing tube and trying to keep the mucous level as low as possible. Our best visit today was while he was on the respirator. He was showing us how he could work both of his hands. We have a red ball about the size of ping pong ball that Clay can squeeze and throw. When we left after the good visit he was still holding it and squeezing as we left. When we came back for the last visit this evening he was sleeping soundly but he still had his ball in his good right hand. We were warned several times that there would be peaks and valleys in the recovery process. The night nurse wanted to get wound care over early, so Clay could have the majority of the night for sleep. Please remember Clay in your prayers. Have a good Sunday.

Our heartfelt thanks,
Chance, DeeDee, & boys

  1. I remember my husbands healing after his accident - many times I thought "He is done with the hard part" only to find out that he had one more hill to climb. Clay will finally climb that last hill even though it is so hard to watch and wait. I know that your days are becoming so dependant on the hospital routine... When you can see him and when you have to leave, it is a new world that no one can know until they have been there. And to have the two boys that still need you to be home only makes it harder... I am keeping Clay and all of you close to my thoughts all the time. Wish I could come and give you a big hug and help out a little... My prayers are ongoing and they will be until all is well... Stay Strong!!

Our prayers tonight will be that the nasty fluid goes away from his lungs and he has a peaceful night. Also pray for strength and comfort you guys. Always remember you guys are not alone..God is always by your side touching you guys in ways you don't even notice. Continually praying...

  4. From California: This brings back memories of my husband's burns. We had no idea what he had ahead of him -- and that was probably a good thing because all we could do was take one day at a time -- that is the very best way. We send our love and prayers!

  5. I just finished praying for my favorite Fite family. You were the topic at lunch today between a friend, who is also following your blog and I. She too is praying for all of you. I remember some days wondering when it would all be over, when the nightmare would end. Although it is different for each family, please know that we are walking through this with you. (As much as we can from Mexico.) I would do anything to be able to come and hug each of you, love on you, pray with you, cry with you and cheer with you as you see that little red ball squish! Some day I do hope I get to hug your necks!Until then I will keep praying that God continues to heal Clay's body, each and every little part of it! Tomorrow (Sunday)WILL be a better day!! I just feel it! Love from Mexico, The Wood family

  8. Thinking of you all this morning as we do every day. It is nice that Carson and Cody can visit Clay and read to him as that would help Clay knowing they are there. We are glad he can move his left hand along with the right one.
Hope you have a better day today.
    Much love to ya'll. B&E

  9. (From Ft. Worth) We haven't had the privilege of meeting your family yet, but you are very much in our thoughts and prayers! We pray that you hang in there, that discouragement doesn't drag you down. We plead for mercy and strength to be sent your way, and most of all for little Clay to have the ability to endure, and then when he is healed, the ability to forget the pain. We hope that every day gets better and that soon the peaks outnumber all the valleys. Love, the Blair family.

  10. Dear Fite's:

I just got back to Internet and had to read a week's worth of updates. You have had an eventful week for sure. I am lifting all of you up to receive the caress of God's hand today and throughout the coming days. Hoping Clay's setbacks are short lived and the many milestones continue strongly. You have some mighty prayerpartners and prayer warriors standing in for you.
