Monday, April 6

Hello to all! What an emotional night & day. Our night nurse stayed in Clay's room. He pulled up a table and sat by his bed. We are thankful for all the wonderful nurses. Clay seemed to be doing better during our 8:00am visit and our 11:00am visit. At our 2:00pm visit, Clay's heart rate was fluctuating again and he was vomiting. He seems to be very restless in the bed. He seemed to constantly move his legs up and down and all around today. Four days ago they took Clay off the morphine and started giving him a new pain medicine. Poor little guy has had a rough time lately. They are going to keep him on the respirator periodically throughout each day. He is being given many different medicines right now. He is exhausted and we are exhausted just by watching. When we had to leave his room this evening, the respiratory therapist was needing to suction through his trachea tube. She could not suction until his heart rate went up. We want to thank you all for lifting us up in your prayers. We are thankful for renewed strength from God everyday. Thanks to all!

  1. My heart breaks for you all and what you are going through. Little Clay is strong, but as a parent I know how hard this has to be for you. Thank goodness kids are tough, sometimes tougher than us adults. Praying things start turning around to the positive soon.

  4. I told you last night I would pray so you could rest, and I did. I do hope you got some rest. I will be "on call" tonight too, so don't you worry one bit! I think I woke up about 15 times last night to pray. (no kidding) So I am not exaggerating when I say I will be in constant contact with the Lord tonight so that you can get some much needed rest. I know that when I was utterly exhausted with Annie there were people that did the same thing for me and that was the only way I could peacefully sleep. It was like having someone babysit for me. So, I am on duty tonight. Praying for a better day tomorrow! I am still praying for Cody and Carson too! Love to you all!! Missy and family

  6. Good evening to you all....It must be heartwarming to you in the midst of your concern for Clay that so many are following along, praying, sometimes with tears, for all of you. Your experiences, joys and sorrows are teaching us all many things about life and faith! Thank you for your trust in God--it helps you and it helps us and is very touching. We are certainly hoping for better days for Clay in the near future. Jenae's good friend is Rita, who is my husband's first cousin. It is a small world, isn't it!! Love and hugs, especially to the children!

  8. From California: Well, if we wanted a motto, Sylvia (above) gave it to us! I just love it ....
THE BIG FIGHT FOR THE LITTLE FITE!!!! That is sooo awesome! Thank you Sylvia!! Today I sent a book to each of the boys but I do understand that Clay probably won't be wanting it read to him right now. That's okay! Someday soon he will so don't worry about that, please. AND....thank you so much for sending the little note earlier today ..... I didn't sleep much last night and that note helped a lot. I could hardly imagine that you had the time or the strength to do that but we have all appreciated it so much (as you can tell from the other comments above!)

Love -- and hugs and hugs!

P.S. I wore my Fite Squad shirt today .... it just made me feel closer.

  12. There are no new words to say...everyone says it so well in other posts; but there are always, always thoughts and prayers going your way. We appreciate your courage and faith, too, in this difficult experience. Have loved the following: "Courage is fear that has prayed." We know that you have/are praying, and soooo many others are along with you...may the courage that comes be great.

  13. Even if Clay wasn't burned, I imagine that he would probably be really really sick with all the stuff that he has to take and go through. The heavy duty pain meds, especially when you are small, really mess with your gastrointestinal system. Then when you have to take them and move around, you can start vomiting. Vomiting a bunch will cause problems, taking off the meds or changing meds will cause problems, but when they get everything just right, it will be okay. Sometimes when he starts getting really sick, it may seem that he has to get really sicker before the doctors and nurses figure out exactly what to do to fix it. Rest assured that the doctors and nurses know exactly what to do when he is a little bitty bit sick and as bad as it gets sick, but sometimes the stuff in between is kind of tough to ride out. Just remember that all throughout the ups and downs, he is still healing otherwise. I bet that when Clay gets well, you and Chance take a really long nap. I hope that today is a great day for you all. God is on duty. He will make it okay.

  14. Just need to give all of you a special hug this morning and tell you we are holding you close even if we are so far away. In our special mgts lately a worker from Canada started his part with quoting the hymn "In every part the battle rages on All through the night until the break of dawn. He said that the same battles are fought in Canada as here in the US. We are so thankful that we can share a bit in your battles and help where we can and we know that if ever we face a battle we will have the help of others also. This is the perfect way of God. We need each other but mostly we are SO thankful for the help of God that is new each morning. We are a rich people. Love you so much.

  15. We continue to pray and have positive thoughts for Clay and all of you. Special prayers to all the staff at the hospital for taking care of the little guy with such amazing skill and care. Everywhere we go in Young county and beyond we see more and more red "Clay" shirts. It is a testament to the faith we all have. Bruce, Carolyn and Chance.

  19. I hope these words are encouraging....I don't get to read the reports everyday, but when I do finally get to catch up on your news, I am in awe of the great steady progress and healing. I am in awe of your strength and Clay's determination, his vibrant spirit. I am so glad to hear about Clay's little friend down the hall, and how he also perks up when he has the chance to see his brothers. I am thankful for all the wonderful therapists and doctors who are working with you. It must be wonderful to finally be able to hold him and comfort him, if only for short periods at a time. I continue to pray for all of you regularly.

  21. Dee Dee it was so nice to finally meet Chance today. You both have done such a wondeful job of being the best parents to Clay. I am praying the doctors will quickly find and repair with God's guidance Clay's heart problem. Please know I am here for your family, and I will check in on yall tomorrow prior to Ray's funeral. I am reminded of this scriputre for Clay:Exodus 33:14
The Lord replied, "I will personally go with you...everything will be fine for you."

  22. I just now got the chance to read the update from last night. Sorry to hear of his restlessness. It could be the new pain medicine. If it is Demerol, I have known personnelly how that makes one restless. I also have seen it others. Hope they find something for him soon.

  26. Hope Clay gets over this stomach thing real soon. I can't imagine how the two of you must feel watching him during this trying time. As a resp. therapist who deals with trachs all day, the hotter they get, the harder it is for them to breathe. We have battles everyday with where the thermostat should be set and finally they realized that we did know what we were talking about. TRACH PATIENTS NEED IT TO BE COLD!! We pray for you all, especially Clay, that you have the strength and the courage to get through everyday, no matter what the day holds for you. Remember the saying...If God brings YOU to it HE will bring YOU through it...May God be with you each and every minute and may He hold you when can't stand anymore. May you have peace in your hearts and assurance in your minds for whatever the days may hold ahead of you. Emma wants you to know that she is thinking of Clay and wants to see him when he gets out of the hosp. The kids in Mrs. Sherry's class really miss him and think of him often. Once again, hold the FAITH and LOVE of GOD close to your heart and never let go.
    With much love and concern,
    Steve, Paige and Emma Scott
