Wednesday, April 8th

Good evening to all. Clay had a very busy and eventful day. He had a restful night. This is good because he needed it today. At the 8:00 visit the occupational therapist came in and spent about an hour and a half making Clay a new removable cast for his right wrist and hand. She is attempting to stretch the fingers down so he can eventually make a fist. She worked with him for quite a while. We told him that he was the first of the Fite brothers to get his own cast and we could sign it for him if he wanted. When she was finished he started raising his right hand and pointing. We could not understand what he was wanting until Mom realized he was wanting us to sign his new cast. No sooner had the O.T. left when the Physical therapy team showed up and gave his legs a good workout and then set him up in his bed and let him set up unassisted for a few minutes. By now it was after 11:00 and Stephanie still had to do his dressing change. We ran downstairs for a quick lunch and came back in around 12:15 for Clay's field trip. He was placed on another bed and guided through the mazes and tunnels of Parkland over to Children's Hospital for his upper G.I. test. This procedure went well. Deidra, Stephanie, Jolyn, and I all were allowed to stay in the room while he was being tested and we could talk him through the entire process which went off with out a hitch. They told us Clay's stomach and intestines looked perfect. First thing this morning he started indicating that he wanted ice. We told him maybe after his test. After all of the morning activities, the test and the two long trips intra hospital, when we wheeled him through the door of his ICU room he looked at us all and said ice. You can bet he had not forgotten. He was quickly given several chips, after which he promptly went to sleep. I had an opportunity to visit with Dr. Purdue this morning. He was optimistic and pointed out how far we have come. He wanted us to know that Clay is making progress in spite of the recent bumps in the road. He said that there will come a time down the road when Clay will not be able to stay in the ICU because there will be people coming in with burns that are going to be worse than Clay's. We don't expect this to happen anytime soon but we know that every day is progress. Clay was resting soundly the last two visits of the day and we know he was pretty worn out. We pray for anther good night that he can use as a springboard in his recovery. Thank you to everyone for your gracious cares, thoughts, and prayers. Good Night.

  1. Great News ! So good to hear the good report. To me Dr. Purdure was such a comfort. I know he is to you. When Clay gets to go to the ACU. you will be able to spend more time with him. I know you will look forward to that. Also it will be an indication of how much he has improved. Wishing Clay speedy recovery and you strength and rest.

  2. Tears again! I am so excited to hear of todays events. We just got home from church and the G-Time Girls want to reassure you all that they are still praying for Clay daily. And the thank you card was so exciting for them, although they were suprised to recieve it. One of the girls said 'Wow, they must really have a lot of faith in God!'...what a testimony your story is...even to an eight year old. May you all have a blessed and restful night.

  4. When Clay gets better and can go over to the other hospital for trips out of Parkland he needs to see the pharmacy robot and the trains(in the lobby on Medical Center Dr Across from blue parking). They have a castle with tiny knights on the first floor too. My son was refreshed when he could take a trip down to see those neato things. It made the boredom go away a bit. I continue to ray for progress for Clay.

  5. I love this post! It just made me smile and smile! I feel like this was definitely a turning point day! I wish you knew how many times I look at little Clay's picture and just wisper "I love you little boy!" He is so dear and precious to us and we are so happy that he is doing better! It is funny, I can almost tell how he is doing by how I sleep at night. I only woke up 3 times last night so I figured he must have been doing pretty well! So happy! Love you all! Try to get some rest, he will be running soon! Love, Missy and family

  6. God is SO good! All the tie. I thank Him for a much greater day today and for His wonderful blessings on you all...which filters down to the rest of us...God can't bless just one family, like you all, and not have it rain on the rest of us with you. Rest again. Tomorrow is a new day and remember..."Joy cometh in the Morning"
God bless you all and have sweet sleeps.

  8. As you probably know well, be now that many people are storming the gates of Heaven on Clay's behalf, and yours as well. Our God is a strong and mighty God. "Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep." Psalm 36:6

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

    We Praise God!-
    That Clay is doing better

For the support of family and friends

    We join others in Praying:
    For Clay’s full recovery

That Clay will be able to transition back home in the not so distant future.

  11. i thought about you all a lot today. glad everything better. everything went well today for me, but it is hard typing with left hand. randy said i have to sit around and do nothing for awhile. he won't haul me around like this. it took a long time to write this because im not at all coordinated with my left hand so i can;t write you all any letters for awhile. we are still praying though. bless you and keep you. i believe at 3 months out from injury, you will have a lot better days each day. God bless you and keep you
