Hi to all! I apologize for posting this so late. We say our prayers and get ready for bed before we type on the blog. This is why it is late at times. Clay was awake when we arrived for the first visit this morning. Jason (his night nurse) told us that Clay woke up at 1:00am and played with a flashlight and his soft spike ball. He was sick at his stomach twice last night and again during our first visit. His secretions are thicker today and it is harder to cough them up. I think that Clay gets nauseated from the anesthesia, too. He did not feel like doing much today, and was still recovering from surgery and the effects thereof. During our 11:00am visit, Clay and Kermit were propped in their wagons. They were taking turns playing a game with a joy stick. Clay did not have the energy to play very long. He slept for most of the afternoon. We are thankful for healing. Special thanks to all!

i don't have it in me right now, but i have wanted to go back through all of your posts and try and figure out a pattern of Clay's nausea. it is bugging me and i want to help you all solve the mystery of the vomiting. maybe soon, i can do this for you! Glad he had a good day. love, missy
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and the family. It sounded like maybe Clay is tired, but not in as much pain as he has been with some of the other procedures. Prayering for a good night's rest for Clay and his parents too!

Glad Clay is resting and even though they are short periods, he is doing some therapy in the form of play. We are glad for that. But, like others, we wish there was a way to overcome the nausea - we know it will happen, but patience is not easy for some of us. Hope he has a better Friday! Love to all, Dawn & Pam
ReplyDeleteI know it has to be exhausting for Clay to have surgery and the meds to sedate him keep him draggy for a little while. That is one tough little Fiter!! I know God has His hands all around Clay and He is the great Healer. I trust Him and the times of rest He gives Clay. And the rest he give you when you sleep so soundly.

You are probably right about the anesthetic making him sick and the mucous. He may continue to vomit for as long as he is mostly in bed on a lot of pain meds, and not really eating real food well. I'm sure that his doctors have things moving through his gastrointestinal tract at a really good speed, however if not, they may try adding something like Dulcolax to help things go through faster. Since he is bedridden and on so much pain meds, things will kind of back up. Mucous and pain meds will probably lead to stomach irritation and he probably has a lot of acid reflux. I'm sure that they are giving him things for acid reflux if he is vomiting a lot and stuff to ease and speed the movement of his bowels, but if not you may want to ask. You vomit more when you are congested, and also the slower things move through the GI tract the more tendency they have for coming back up. I feel for him because he is so little and all of this stuff is so hard on a little guy. The meds and the surgery are probably as hard on him as being burned. Even if he is going to potty, if he isn't taking a stool softener and the doctors think it won't hurt anything, you might ask them if they could try added it to his daily meds. When things go through faster, they don't come back up as much. Keep in mind that there really isn't any medical backing in my advice, it just comes from someone who has had a lot of those meds and vomited more times than I would want anyone to in a lifetime. The weather has been such lately that it makes for a lot of mucous and chest congestion. My doctor found that taking an allergy med help with my congestion and then with Nexium for acid reflux, that solved the throwing up problem for me. If he has a lot of congestion and drainage, maybe even something like Singulair can cut that down and stop some of the vomiting . Since he is on tube feedings and not really eating a lot of food, all of this might not even pertain. I know it is really hard on you guys watching him sick. Probably if he didn't throw up so much, he might like to eat more. I will pray for a good day today. When he gets well, I'm sure that everyday will be every bit as good as these days have been hard and it will make up for these rough days. You made it past 90 days though. Things will start getting better. God Bless.
