Monday, May 25th

Good evening to all. Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday. Carson and Cody enjoyed it at school while they made up a bad weather day. Clay had a wonderful day. He spent a good night in Grandma's care and was awake at 6:00 this morning. Around 8:00 he indicated that he wanted to get out of bed so he got in his wagon and we went down to the play room for a little recreation. He stayed in there for about 30 minutes and then went back to his bed. At noon he got up and walked down to the tank for his bath and wound care. He was taking tiny steps and his nurse Natalie asked him if he could walk like a dinosaur. He immediately started taking much larger strides. He returned from his bath driving the car in the hall. He was cleaned up and stepped out of the car and walked unassisted to his bed. He was placed in bed for all of 10 minutes. He decided the lure of the car was too great and he indicated that he wanted to get back in. I helped him out of bed and he walked to his car got in and drove back to the playroom. Upon arrival he really got busy. There is a play stove and cook top and he cooked several items for grandma and I to sample. He was cooking me a hot dog in the oven and the wiener fell out when he handed it to me. I showed him what happened and he took it and placed in the sink and indicated that he had washed it off and handed it back. He then took all of the play plates and placed them in the sinks and pretended to wash each one and put them up. The boys and I need him home because we are not very good dishwashers. He then went to the table in the play room and played a matching game with Grandma and I. He was the winner. I carried him back to his bed and he was content to be off his feet for a bit. When I left he had a bowl of apple sauce and his personal spoon and was really giving it a good tasting. We are happy to see him eat anything because it has been so long since he has. He is scheduled for a test at Children's tomorrow. We are not certain we are going to do it because he seems to have made such progress today. I am headed to the hospital for the night to relieve Grandma and let her get some rest. Thank you Joy/Grandma we could not have made it this far without your help. Thanks to all and good night.

  4. I'm Jenae's friend, Amy, checking in as I do every night. Sounds like an encouraging day for you! I'm hoping Clay's tummy problems are soon resolved... I'm guessing he's missing his little friend, too. I was glad for Kermit to be well enough to go home, but sad for Clay to say goodbye to his buddy.

That is a huge milestone! I am so proud of all of you! I prayed that the gastro....(still don't have it in me! ;o}) will help to solve his problems with nausea. I will keep on prayin'! Love, Missy

  6. Thank you for the wonderful update. So glad Clay had a good day and was able to "cook a meal" for his momma and grandma. That is so special and I could just picture him washing off that hotdog! He is a real thinker. That is good. More and continued love and prayers. Carolyn

  7. I know that you have always had faith, but seems to me like you have received your giant bolus of hope. Always for me when I was sick, there was a point when things changed and I KNEW that I was going to be okay. It's like sprinting at the end of the race when you have held back for so long not knowing, and then you finally give it all you got, because you know that you are going to make it to the line. When I said before that thing were so unfamiliar because you were so far from home, I imagine that has changed. I imagine that right now your home seems almost close enough to touch. I think that your faith has carried you to hope. Dream big. It is okay to start sprinting because you are not going to run out of gas. You are going to make it. When Clay reaches whereever that he wants to be, he will just keep sprinting onto somewhere else that he sees ahead. As you all are running a long if you come across a mountain or a rough spot, just slow down, breathe deeper and find comfort in the fact that you know you will get to the other side. Good luck keeping up with the little guy. Before long you will be back to the days all moms have of watching your children play and wishing to goodness that they would be tired enough to take a long nap. Once Clay gets up to speed, he may not ever ever ever slow down again. Take your vitamins. God bless.

  8. Great news! I hope you find the care in Acute Care Unit as great as we did. To hear of his playfulness and imagination back in opertion is awesome you know he has to be getting better, which makes you better. Praying for Clays continued improvement. Hopefully it won't be long until he is one of these little boys that you can't fill up on food. Best Wishes!

  11. Hello Dee Dee, not sure if you remember me but I am Amy and I met you at the icu back in March when my cousin Lacretia was brought in with awful burns and not expected to make it.. You were the angel on the 6th floor as my mom always referred to you. I just wanted to say I am so happy for you guys that Clay has made it to the other side of the hospital and no longer has to be in ICU. You are a wonderful lady and you have no idea the impact that you have on the other people that you meet on that wing... We were so shocked to see someone going through such a hard thing with their own child and still be so willing to help by bringing food and offering kind words to others there. You are an awesome and Godly woman and I know you will be blessed for your kind acts.. Thank you for the kind gentle woman that you are and I wish you and your beautiful family many many happy and blessed years together. Amy
