Wednesday, May 27

Hello to all! This is DeeDee again. Since we are able to be with Clay 24/7, it's hard to remember all the events in a 24 hour time period. I was allowed to help Clay with his bath yesterday, but not today (depends on the tech). He came back from his bath sitting on a rolling chair with a smile on his face; so, the bath wasn't so bad after all. I had asked the doctors last Friday if they could take Clay off of some of his anti-nausea medications. Since he was vomiting with the medicines, I didn't think it would hurt to vomit without them. I didn't want so much medication in his little body, especially if it didn't seem to be helping the problem. The doctors said that they would discuss it. A day later, a gastro doctor from Children's hospital showed up. He ordered for Clay to be taken off all of the anti-nausea medication for three days. If he is still vomiting, after three days, he will be given a different medication. Clay went for a ride around the BICU today and waved to everyone. One of the ICU nurses noticed that Clay's feed tube was out too far (as he drove past her in the little jeep). The doctors came to his room this afternoon to see if they could push it back down. This was uncomfortable and made Clay gag. An x-ray showed that the tube was not down far enough. The feed tube will be removed for a day. Clay may not have to have the tube put back through his nose, if he is able to keep his liquid down. We are hoping for no vomiting during this time. He will also get a smaller trach tomorrow.
He had a lot of fun with O.T & P.T today. It is amazing how independent he is already becoming. I'm going to get some rest. My mom is at the hospital tonight and I'll arrive early in the morning to take over. Thanks for all your encouragement, it is such a help to us.

  1. Please know I still think of you many times throughout the day and pray for you often. I do hope the new routine will somehow allow you all to get some rest. I am praying that maybe the feeding tube will be the solution and he will just be done vomiting! Love from Mexico, Missy and family

  4. Your telling of Clay in the jeep brought a smile to my face. Our grandson LOVES his motorized vehicles. Who would have dreamed even a couple of months ago that Clay would be doing all that he is? Get some rest!

  5. We love to read of more signs of the Real Clay coming out!!! It is good that his therapies are fun for him, too. We hope for a day today that will be "sick" free! Getting all of the meds out of his little body would have to feel better! Our little guy would love to be riding in that jeep with Clay! :) Hope you rested well, and that today is a good day for all of you!

  7. What a great way to start my day! I am so happy that Clay is improving at such a rapid rate. Megan and I were talking last night about his tremendous sense of humor. That should be a wonderful sign to the doctors as well. It takes a good mind to have a sense of humor.
May God bless Clay today with no vomiting and the ability to function properly without the meds. That little boy is all Fite. What a winner!

  8. Good thinking on your part, Mom, regarding the meds. Hopefully his system will feel much better when it clears out some of those chemicals. He sounds like a spunky little boy. I've followed his journey everyday and am so glad to be reading more happy news. Wishing for a speedy recovery from this point on!!

  9. Hello Fites! Just a note to let you know that everyone here a Southern Bleacher is keeping up with your daily updates. We cheer with you, cry with you and definitely pray with & for you.

It's difficult at best to say that "all things work together for the good of those that love God and are called according to His purpose," but indeed, if we can see any silver lining, it is that this is bringing people together to pray and seek God. It is the peace of God that passes all udnerstanding and His promises that we stand upon.

    Standing with you!

  10. I too have read every single thing you have written and am so, so happy to hear about the improvements! DeeDee, I know you are absolutely exhausted and that makes all you and the others do for us so special so that we can hear how Clay is doing!! I wish I lived closer -- I am not "nurse" material at all but boy would I love to have Clay fix a meal for me in the playroom! Today I will be going around with a big smile on my face!!!! Until next time.....
    Lots of love and hugs!
