Thursday, May 21st

Hello to all. Short post tonight from Olney. Clay was pretty good this morning he played with some toys that O.T. brought in and was proud of his accomplishments. Deidra and Joy came in to one visit and there was an ear, nose, and throat specialist from Children's doing an exam on Clay. They are going to schedule him a trip over to their hospital to do some test trying to pinpoint the cause of the vomiting. We thought this was an example of the BICU being cautious after yesterdays incident, apparently not. At 6:00 tonight Deidra was informed that Clay is scheduled to be moved out of the BICU tomorrow. He will be moved with the trach in place. Mom and Grandma started packing up some of his stuff tonight. He gave them his spiky ball that he sleeps with each night. They told him he could keep it until the move tomorrow. He said no and indicated he wanted it packed up. Grandma told him if he could get a good nights sleep he would be ready for the move tomorrow. He quickly shut his eyes. He is ready to go. Joy and Deidra had another surprise today. Kermit went home to Austin with his grandmother. He came by Clay's room to say goodbye and just missed Joy and Deidra. The nurse told Deidra and she ran down the stairs to say goodbye. She shed several tears with Kermit and his Grandmother but they were tears of joy. We wish Kermit a quick recovery and hope he enjoys being home with his loved ones. Deidra and Joy are back at the Ronald McDonald House getting clothes washed and some things together, because Deidra will get to stay the night with Clay once he is moved out of ICU. Tomorrow will be a milestone for Clay. I am sure God knows what is best for him and he will continue to improve in his care. Thanks to everyone for your post and concerns we appreciate all.

  1. My prayer has been that they wouldn't move him until He thought Clay was ready. So, I guess God feels it's time. I will continue to pray the vomiting is resolved and that this transition goes well. Today I was at the park with Annie and she stopped in the middle of the park and said, "We need to pray for Clay." So she did right there by the swings. She said, "I know he is gonna be just fine, Mama." So, if she said it, it's true!! Love you all, rest well, I am sure you will get less when you are sleeping in his room! Love, Missy and family

  3. Wonderful! How great it will be to not have to leave Clay at night! Who will be more glad - Clay or Mom and Dad? :) We're a little sad that Clay won't have Kermit there, but we're glad for Kermit and look forward to the day Clay will go home too! Might be hard to say goodbye to the great staff in BICU, but hope you find more like them in the regular room. Our hearts are happy as we read your post tonight. Love, Morgan and Michelle

  4. Yeah for Kermit. I imagine Clay will be going home pretty soon too. Probably before you think he will. I'm glad they called the ENT because I bet that he can figure out something to do away with a lot of the vomiting or at least help figure out why it is occurring. Just having you all with Clay will help with the vomiting and pain though. I'm sure that it has caused him great stress for you all not be able to stay with him all the time. Stress makes your stomach upset even when nothing is wrong with you and anxiety makes your pain level higher. When Clay gets a round the clock dose of you all, I bet you see a huge improvement in his overall condition. God Bless

  6. That is such great news and even better that Mom will get to spend the night with him in his room. It can be a little scary the first few hours after moving from the safe cocoon of BICU where you have one on one attention, but they only take that step when you are ready, so GO CLAY!!! We'll be praying for quick answers on the vomitting issue and an exceptional next day on the way to discharge.
    Blessings,

  7. I join the rest with shouts of joy at Clay's being moved out of the Burn ICU! Wonderful news! Prayers will be for his good report from ENT and a smooth trip to that hospital and to his new room. I know I always felt better if my mother was close and got better just because she was near. This should help Clay as well. I also know I felt better whe I was close to my little ones when they were sick. So you may even relax a little. I love you, Carolyn

  10. So sorry to hear about the terrible experience yesterday. Hopefully, this will cause the doctors to take extra steps to stop the sickness that Clay is having. We are encouraged to hear that Clay is moving and is so excited about this move. We look forward to the day sometime soon when he will move back to his home in Olney.

  13. What great news that is!! It's nice for Clay to see that Kermit was able to go home and Clay has something to shoot for...not that he hasn't been thinking that way already. I'm sure he is more than ready. Hopefully the ENT will find an answer soon. We are all so happy that you guys are moving out of the BICU but what a transition that will be. A little scary, but a big step in the right direction. Prayers are still going up to God in hopes that all will be even better in the days to come. You guys have been through so much and we hope you all are getting plenty of rest. Maybe the anxiety level will go down a notch or two for you guys. We look forward to another day of exciting news and many more new things for Clay to accomplish. We have all the FAITH in the world for a full recovery and we know he has the "fite" in him to make it all happen. Congratulations Clay on this next move in the right direction.

  14. I don't know you personaly but heard through my husband's auntie Lavina about Clay. I have been following along. We had a tramatic accident happen in our family this last year and reading your blogs bring back all of the unexplainable emotions of ICU. So many prayers going up for Clay and family. What a wonderful day to be getting out of ICU! Thank you for keeping all of us up to date on Clay's progress. We appreciate it. No words that I say can change anything but just know how many are thinking of you and praying for you that don't even know you personally. With care and concern. ~Teah
